about Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is an injectable vein treatment commonly used to address:
- Spider Veins
- Visible Surface Veins
- Small Varicose Veins
During treatment, a specialized FDA approved medication, Asclera, is injected directly into targeted veins, causing t small superficial innocuous blood clots to form in the superficial spider veins which gradually cause the small veins to be reabsorbed by the body over time.
As treated veins close, blood flow is redirected through healthier surrounding veins.
Sclerotherapy is often selected for individuals bothered by:
- Visible Leg Veins
- Cosmetic Vein Concerns
- Mild Discomfort Associated With Superficial Veins
At Nuvo Med, treatment planning is individualized based on:
- Vein Size
- Vein Location
- Skin Type
- Circulation Patterns
- Treatment Goals
What It Treats
Sclerotherapy is commonly used for:
- Spider veins
- Small varicose veins
- Visible surface leg veins
- Reticular veins
- Cosmetic vein concerns
How Sclerotherapy works
Sclerotherapy works by injecting a medical solution directly into targeted veins.
The solution irritates the inner lining of the vein, causing the vessel walls to close and collapse. Over time, the body gradually absorbs the treated vein and redirects circulation through healthier nearby vessels. Depending on the vein being treated, we may recommend one of the following approaches:
Because multiple veins and branching patterns are often involved, treatment may require multiple sessions to achieve desired improvement.

Evaluation is important to determine whether sclerotherapy is appropriate and whether additional vascular assessment is needed.
The Sclerotherapy experience
Before
Treatment areas are evaluated carefully and vein patterns are assessed.
Some individuals’ treatments may be enhanced by ultrasound assistance depending on vein size and location.
During
A fine needle is used to inject solution directly into the targeted veins. individuals tolerate treatment well without anesthesia.
Treatment sessions generally last approximately 15-60 minutes depending on the number and size of veins treated.

After
Most patients return to normal activities shortly after treatment. We recommend wearing compression stockings for three days and taking a 20-minute walk immediately after treatment and daily for the following week.
Temporary side effects may include:
• Mild bruising, swelling, or tenderness
• Darkening of treated veins as they gradually fade over 1 to 3 months
For several days after treatment, avoid:
• High heat (hot tubs, saunas)
• Prolonged inactivity

Patient Reviews for Sclerotherapy
The treatment was quick and much easier than I expected. Over time, the visible veins faded, and I feel much more confident showing my legs.
