About Bio-Stimulants
Sculptra is an injectable biostimulator made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a material used to stimulate the body’s natural collagen, fat, and mild elastin production over time.
Radiesse is an injectable biostimulator made from calcium hydroxyapatite, which is best at stimulating elastin production and secondarily collagen production. It does not promote fat production. Unlike traditional fillers that primarily replace volume immediately, biostimulants work more gradually by promoting collagen, elastin, and fat production beneath the skin.
It is commonly used to:
- Improve Facial Volume Loss
- Support Skin Firmness and Structure
- Soften Hollow Areas Like the Temples
- Rejuvenate the Appearance of The Hands
- Improve Overall Skin Quality
- Support Longer-Term Rejuvenation
- Rejuvenate Crepey Skin on the Knees, Elbows, Abdomen, Neck, or Anywhere on the Body
Biostimulants are often incorporated into regenerative aesthetic approaches focused on structural aging rather than short-term correction alone.
What It Treats
Bio-Stimulants are commonly used for:
- Facial Volume Loss
- Hollow Cheeks or Temples
- Skin Laxity
- Hand Rejuvenation
- Facial Wrinkles, Jowling, And Laxity
- Fine Lines and Wrinkles Associated With Collagen Loss
- Improving Skin Quality Above The Knees, Thighs, And Arms
How Sculptra AND Radiesse work
SCULTPRA
Sculptra stimulates collagen, fat, and elastin production in the skin over time. After injection, the PLLA particles help activate the body’s natural remodeling response to increase collagen, fat, and elastin production in the skin. As collagen, fat, and elastin gradually develop, the skin and underlying tissue may appear:
- Firmer
- Fuller
- Smoother
- More Structurally Supported
Radiesse
Radiesse (calcium hydroxyapatite) stimulates elastin and collagen production in the skin. Radiesse is far better than Sculptra at elastin production, leading to tighter skin, while both stimulate collagen. At Nuvo Med, we use the biostimulant that is best for your needs, and frequently we use a combination of the two.
Because collagen, fat, and elastin production occurs gradually, improvement develops progressively rather than immediately. This mechanism makes biostimulants different from traditional fillers that mainly provide direct volume replacement but do not correct the underlying problem.

The Biostimulant experience
Before
Facial anatomy, movement, skin quality, and collagen loss are evaluated to determine whether biostimulants are clinically appropriate.
During
Biostimulants are injected strategically into selected areas using cannula placement techniques
Many patients undergo a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart depending on age, collagen loss, and treatment goals.
Treatment typically takes about 20–45 minutes.
After
Temporary swelling, tenderness, bruising, or redness may occur. Massage instructions are commonly provided following treatment.
Most individuals resume normal activities shortly after treatment.

faqs about Sculptra
Is Sculptra a filler?
Sculptra is considered a biostimulatory injectable because it primarily stimulates collagen production over time rather than simply adding immediate volume.
How long does it take to see results?
Results develop gradually over several weeks to months as collagen remodeling occurs.
How many treatments are usually needed?
Many individuals benefit from a series of treatments depending on age, collagen loss, and treatment goals.
How long can Sculptra last?
Results may last up to two years for some individuals, though longevity varies.
Is Sculptra part of regenerative aesthetics?
Yes. Sculptra is commonly associated with regenerative-focused aesthetic treatment because it stimulates the body’s own collagen response.
